Although Colombia has been recognized for its AI policies, its development is unsatisfactory. Under the Duque government, an ethical framework was issued and various documents were established to promote AI, but the impacts were not evaluated nor the opinions of local actors collected. The Petro government has not moved forward either and seems to want to start from scratch.
The column describes how the lack of effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms is a constant in Colombian developments but that the lack of public and contextual participation has been the most important problem in its formulation and invites us to analyze to what extent the development of these strategies in The countries of the region and for the region have similar deficiencies and therefore it may be a problem with the current model that should be reviewed.
